Stylish Family Garden Designed for Nature and Play
This garden project was created to harmonise a new contemporary extension with a traditional Victorian home, striking the perfect balance between modern and classic design. The property features a rendered outrigger with large picture and oriel windows, alongside the original rubble stone façade—our design needed to respect both architectural styles while creating a cohesive outdoor space.
Designed for a young, outdoorsy family, the garden prioritises naturalistic planting that encourages exploration, play, and a strong connection with nature. Abundant planting creates a lush, inviting environment, while a carefully positioned pergola adds shade and structure to the south-facing terrace, making the outdoor space comfortable and usable throughout the day.
Material choices and hardscape detailing were carefully considered to add visual interest and break up the geometric L-shaped garden plot. By focusing the main budget on areas closest to the house, we were able to deliver maximum impact where it matters most. The wider garden was designed with a softer, more cost-effective approach—mainly lawns and naturalistic planting—providing plenty of space for children to run, play, and enjoy the outdoors.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful garden design can bridge modern and traditional architecture while creating a family-friendly, nature-inspired space that’s beautiful, functional, and sustainable.
